Vaccinate- Maybe the best way to wipe out malaria is to vaccinate people against the disease. Instead of treating the environment to get rid of the messengers (the mosquitoes), you prevent the message from being received. But even if we had a vaccine (and we don't, yet...), it would be expensive and difficult to reach every person in Cardoon who needs a vaccination.

This model assumes that each year the scientist can vaccinate only 1 out of every 10 people in Cardoon. People who get the vaccine become immune forever. They turn dark green in the movie to the right, and as time passes and the movie plays, you will see the map get greener and greener. The model can help you think about how long it might take to wipe out the disease.

Here are some Questions to Consider:

-With the vaccinated people spread out across the country, what happens to the disease?

-Would you want to run the immunization program in a different way?

-Remember that in our model, malaria doesn't kill anybody and we are assuming that nobody in Cardoon is born or dies during the time period shown. How different do you think this is from the real world?
